Jamaica To Drop Covid Testing For All International Arrivals From April 16

Jamaica will not require any visitors to submit a pre-departure Covid-19 test starting April 16, the government has confirmed.

Until now, international visitors were required to present a negative Covid-19 antigen or PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to travel.

“We’re optimistic that these will serve to increase the appeal of Jamaica as a premier destination and keep us moving toward a stronger recovery for the tourism sector and our economy as a whole,” said Edmund Bartlett, minister of tourism.

In addition, Jamaica’s mask mandate for indoor settings will expire on April 15.

“Eliminating mask mandates and the need for travelers to present a negative COVID test result are important strides toward our continued gradual relaxation of travel protocols as the spread of COVID-19 keeps declining,” said the minister.

Visitors and residents are still advised to exercise caution and follow health recommendations.

Last month, Jamaica also eliminated the requirement that travelers complete and have approved a travel authorization form to enter the island.

In addition, the length of time visitors must isolate if infected with Covid-19 was shortened in accordance with CDC recommendations.

“As we review our Jamaica CARES program and travel protocols regularly, taking these actions was the logical next step to keep Jamaica aligned with best practices globally,” says Donovan White, Director of Tourism, Jamaica Tourist Board.

“Many destinations in the Caribbean region and around the world have been easing travel requirements, so this change will help us ensure that Jamaica retains its leadership position among the world’s top tourism destinations.”

In its most recent COVID-19 travel recommendation, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lowered Jamaica to a travel advisory to level 1.
