Why Are Tourists Flocking To The Bahamas In Record Numbers

Officials announced this week that the Bahamas is expected to welcome over 8 million visitors this year, having already received over 7.2 million visitors in the first three quarters of 2023, which is equal to the total number of visits for the entire year of 2019.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investment and Aviation has confirmed that 7,209,165 people entered the country by air and sea between January and September 30, 2023.

“The overall goal of our efforts in tourism is to continually increase visitor arrival numbers to our destination, year after year,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Chester Cooper. “Our tourism performance in 2023 has been spectacular on two fronts. We have surpassed the tourism benchmark year of 2019 across all metrics, and our visitor arrival numbers are a resounding indication of a complete post-pandemic rebound.”

Foreign air arrivals, encompassing both day visits and layovers, have increased by 21% compared to the same period in 2022. Furthermore, the total count of layover visitors up to September is nearly on par with the number of layover visitors during the equivalent period in 2019.

Total spending by visitors to the Bahamas is also on the rise.

“We are now certain to have a record year for tourism arrivals, and it’s no fluke,” said Cooper. “We have some of the most attractive cruise destinations in the region, with the new Port of Nassau making waves on social media and throughout the travel sector.”

Aside from aiding the Bahamas’ tourism sector in its recovery to pre-pandemic levels, the Minister emphasized that the industry’s unwavering dedication to providing novel experiences and exceptional service is driving the country towards a significantly greater market presence in the area.

For its part, JetBlue celebrated the launch of its first nonstop service between Los Angeles and Nassau, the dynamic capital of the Bahamas.

Travelers from California will find it easier to access the paradisiacal tropical country thanks to this new direct route, which will serve to expedite travel between the West Coast and the West Indian archipelago.
