Disney is scrapping its mask-wearing mandate for vaccinated guests at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort on Feb. 17, announced the multinational Tuesday.
The restriction was lifted right after Universal Orlando Resort and cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NCLH.N) also dropped the measure for their guests.
The move means that double-jabbed visitors will no longer be required to wear face coverings outside or inside attractions, stores, or restaurants as of Thursday, Feb. 17.
Those who have opted out of taking the COVID-10 vaccine should still wear a mask in all indoor venues.
“COVID‑19 has been a constantly evolving situation, and for nearly two years, we’ve been very intentional and gradual in our approach to COVID‑19 health and safety protocols,” reads a statement issued by Disney.
“Given recent community trends and the availability of vaccines, we are positioned to responsibly adjust our health and safety protocols for fully vaccinated Guests.”
Disney has not revealed any mechanisms to verify who is fully vaccinated. It is expected it will utilize its old “honor system.”
All visitors aged 2 and above must still wear face coverings on enclosed Disney transportation, such as buses, monorails, and the Disney Skyliner.
Hundreds of guests have taken to social media to express their approval or discontent with the new measure.
“Well, I guess yesterday marks the last day I’ll be going until the numbers drop. People have such short memories. Until cases drop below 150 a day we are never really out of this. Thanks Disney for screwing the responsible people (i.e. vaxed and masked)!” Los.
“I think all of it should go away. At this point, people should be responsible for themselves. If you’re scared, stay home or wear a mask that actually protects YOU,” Jennifer.
The new rule, however, does not apply to all states.
According to Disney California, all visitors are required to wear face coverings in select interior areas, such as Disney shuttles and health facilities such as in First Aid, regardless of vaccination status.
“The State of California strongly recommends that all Guests be fully vaccinated or obtain a negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the Disneyland Resort,” it added.
