Indonesia’s state-owned enterprise, PT Indonesian Tourism Development (ITDC), has announced a significant upswing in hotel occupancy rates within the integrated hotel precincts of Nusa Dua during the third quarter of 2023. Occupancy rates surged to an impressive average of 83 percent, reflecting a noteworthy improvement from the same period in 2022 when the rate stood at a more modest 65.8 percent.

Gusti Ngurah Ardita, the General Manager of The Nusa Dua, attributes this positive growth in occupancy to the increased frequency of national and international conferences and exhibitions (MICE) hosted in the region. Between July and September 2023, the number of overnight tourists reached a substantial 287,181, a marked increase compared to the corresponding period in 2022, which welcomed 190,906 overnight visitors.

This achievement signals a promising resurgence for the tourism sector in Nusa Dua, approaching levels reminiscent of the pre-COVID-19 era. In the third quarter of 2019, the occupancy rate peaked at 84.4 percent, with overnight tourist numbers totaling 258,193.

Foreign tourists have played a pivotal role in driving this growth, with their visits increasing by an impressive 50.4 percent compared to 2022 and by a notable 11.2 percent compared to 2019.

Additionally, the Water Blow Peninsula, a renowned tourist attraction characterized by its captivating waves and rock formations within the ITDC area, also witnessed a surge in visitor numbers during the period spanning July to September 2023. Tourist visits reached 21,909, marking a substantial 28.6 percent increase from the equivalent period in 2022 when the figure was 17,032.

Furthermore, Nusa Dua’s luxury hotel sector hosted a series of international events throughout the third quarter of 2023, including the ASEAN Energy Ministers’ meetings. In October 2023, the occupancy rate for the 15 luxury hotels in the area remained consistently high, averaging 80.6 percent. This positive trend can be attributed to international engagements, including the 2023 AIS Forum Summit and the 61st Asian-African Legal Consultation Organization (AALCO) meeting.

As we look ahead to the fourth quarter of 2023, optimism prevails, with expectations of sustaining an occupancy rate exceeding 80 percent. This buoyant outlook is underpinned by a bustling agenda planned for the period and the forthcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, which are anticipated to further stimulate tourism in the region.
