Los Cabos, Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo have been named the safest places in Mexico, according to a recent official study.
With arrival numbers exceeding 2019 levels and accounting for nearly 8% of all air traffic in Mexico, San Lucas and San Jose are well on their way to becoming the new Cancun.
Americans are particularly fond of “The Capes,” as evidenced by the 22% increase in visits so far in 2022 compared to 2019.
Level 2 Advisory
Los Cabos Tourism Trust is an organization that tracks tourism data and trends in the region.
According to Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, the Trust’s director, Los Cabos remains at Level 2 of the Travel Advisory in addition to ranking among the safest destinations in Mexico. Let’s explain what that means:
The United States assigns different risk classifications to travel destinations, ranging from 1 to 4. While level 1 indicates that there is no danger to tourists, level 4 is a list of no-go areas.
Los Cabos, along with Cancun and several other Mexican beach towns, has been classified as a Level 2 destination; people are only advised to exercise caution when visiting.
In fact, level 2 is the lowest position a large urban region can aspire to. Countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and even Denmark, where violent crime is virtually non-existent, have received the same warning.
The beautiful Capes now have their own official security badge of their country after gaining international recognition.
One Of The Top Safest Cities In Mexico
According to Cascajares, Los Cabos consistently ranks in the top six for Mexican safety awareness. The other five include San Pedro Garza Garcia, Benito Juarez, Tampico, Piedras Negras and Saltillo
The study, conducted by INEGI, Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography, looked at 75 of the country’s “major” cities, with “citizen perception of security” among the top rankings.
Of course, tourist satisfaction is high, as evidenced by the region’s amazing recovery during the post-pandemic vacation season, which significantly outperformed other regions of Mexico.
Cascajares claims that Los Cabos has had no significant negative events in the last “4 or 5 years” and the region remains consistently at level 2.
