Puerto Rico has lifted all Covid-19 entry restrictions for American Travelers and dropped nearly all on-island pandemic measures, announced Puerto Rican Governor Pedro Pierluisi Monday.
Effective March 10th, travelers from mainland US will no longer require a vaccine certificate, proof of a negative Covid-19 test, or completion of the official travel declaration form to visit the island.
In a similar vein, hotel and restaurant customers will not be required to produce proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test to access indoor areas.
“Traveling to Puerto Rico is becoming easier as the Island continues to lead vaccination efforts and contagion rates continue to decrease,” said Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico.
“Today’s announcement lifting entry requirements for domestic travelers and reducing restrictions on Island will bring a new travel experience to those visiting. As the pandemic evolves, so will our efforts surrounding the health and safety of visitors and residents.”
Notice that international arrivals must continue to follow US entry guidelines until further notice. This means that overseas visitors aged 18 and up must be fully vaccinated be permitted entry.
Those aged 2 and above must also present a negative Covid-19 test taken within one day of their arrival on US soil. A recovery certificate is also valid.
Passengers 12 and older arriving in Puerto Rico via cruise ships must be fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by the US FDA or the WHO to be permitted disembark on the island.
The statewide mask mandate will also be removed. Private businesses, however, will retain the right to impose any rules they deem necessary to protect their customers and employees.
Capacity restrictions for both private and public establishments was also removed. Nevertheless, special protocols will be in place only for events with more than 1,000 guests.
Puerto Rico boasts one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. As of today, 81.8 percent of its almost 3.2 million people have been fully vaccinated, said the government.
