Portugal no longer requires travelers to submit a negative test result upon entry, nor do they have to present other vaccination documents such as the EU digital certificate.
The new rule was announced today by the country’s National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC).
In its statement, ANAC points out that after the entry into force of Decree No. 8022-D/2022 of June 30, airlines are no longer required to demand travelers present Covid-19 documentation.
“Under this new regulation, airlines and passengers are no longer subject to the restrictive measures that applied to air transport in the fight against the pandemic caused by the Sars-CoV-2 virus, which lasted until June 30, 2022,” it says
The ability to visit Portugal without tests or other documentation is likely to cheer many travelers who plan to fly to the country in the coming months, although the travel situation across Europe still appears precarious, with many travelers seeing their plans affected by strikes, delays, and cancelations.
In other words, visitors can now enter the country in the same way as before the pandemic, only with a passport and, if necessary, the appropriate visa.
According to the government, the changes were made because “the epidemiological situation experienced in Portugal following the Covid-19 disease pandemic has remained relatively stable, as a result of the high vaccination coverage, the emergence of new drugs for the serious disease and greater knowledge about the infection”.
