Italy is set to drop all its remaining entry restrictions on June 1, authorities have announced.
The move means that travelers no longer need to show proof of testing, recovery or vaccination.
Furthermore, the Italian Ministry of Health said that the existing obligation to submit a Covid pass upon arrival in Italy, which expires on May 31, will not be extended.
“From June 1st stop green pass for entry into Italy. The ordinance of the Minister of Health which provides for the Green Certification Covid-19 (green pass) to enter Italy expires on May 31. The measure will not be extended,” the statement of the Ministry reads.
Italy is one of the EU nations that has retained some of the most restrictive regulations in place, due to the high infection rates it experienced during the early stages of the pandemic.
To date, all tourists must present a vaccination certificate indicating that they have completed basic immunization or received a booster dose within the last nine months.
Italy also accepts Covid-19 test results and recovery certificates showing that the holder has recovered from Covid in the last nine months.
Remaining Covid-19 restrictions in Italy
In Italy, masks are still compulsory on public transport. The Minister of Health will decide whether to extend the mask requirement beyond June 15.
However, until that date, airports and airlines can require passengers traveling to and from Italy to wear face masks.
This is despite the EU-wide ban on face coverings on flights, which took effect in mid-May. It is particularly important that these face masks be FFP2.
To date, people must wear a mask when visiting Concert halls, Theatres, Live music clubs, Indoor sporting arenas, and hospitals.
Those who need to visit health care facilities must be able to produce a booster dose certificate, a primary vaccination course and a negative Covid-19 test or a Covid-19 recovery certificate and a negative Covid-19 test.
