Greece To Lift All Entry Restrictions From May 1 To September

All travelers will be permitted to enter Greece without testing restrictions from May 1 through September regardless of their vaccination status, Health Minister Tanos Plevris said in Delphi, where the VII Foro Economico is being held.

A rapid test will be reintroduced in September, according to the Greek portal Enimerotiko.

“Conditions allow us to proceed with the suspension of the protection measures put in place from May 1st,” said the minister.

The resumption of Covid testing, however, is critical for the fall because “we are not ignoring the pandemic; we are simply entering a new phase of normalcy,” Plevris said.

Authorities determined that summer should be spent with no restrictions and only self-diagnosis, with no molecular or rapid testing required.

This means that summer visitors and locals alike will no longer need to present a negative Covid 19 test, a certificate of recovery, or proof of vaccination to sit in open areas such as bars, cafes, restaurants or enter nightclubs.

For the time being (including Easter), only fully vaccinated travelers including visitors from the U.S. the UK, and Canada can enter Greece by providing a vaccine certificate, proof of recovery from Covid, or a negative test result.

A PCR taken within 72 hours or a lateral flow from within 24 hours will be accepted.

Travelers must have received their second regular vaccine shot at least 14 days and no more than nine months before going to Greece to be considered fully vaccinated.

Those who received their last vaccination more than nine months ago will need a booster dose to be considered fully vaccinated.

Unvaccinated persons may enter Greece if they present a negative PCR test result obtained no more than 72 hours prior to arrival, a lateral flow test confirmed by an approved laboratory taken no more than 24 hours prior to arrival, or proof of recovery from the virus.

Children under the age of five are not required to be tested to enter Greece.
