Cancun continues to break tourism records despite the fact that inflation has increased significantly in recent months.
The general director of the Tourism Promotion Council, Dario Flota Ocampo, and the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, announced that the number of visitors to the Mexican Caribbean in July and August increased by 20% compared to the same months in 2019.
This figure means that in 2022 there will be 3,757,775 more visitors in these months than in July and August before the pandemic.
There are numerous benefits for travelers who choose Cancun as their favorite vacation spot. Most travel there for its beautiful white sand beaches, stunning blue sea, water sports, opulent all-inclusive resorts and vibrant nightlife.
With hundreds of wonderful restaurants to choose from, more and more visitors also come for the culinary scene.
In addition, other airports in the province and Cancun International Airport have seen a remarkable 20 percent increase in passenger numbers. At a press conference, Mr. Ocampo mentioned this, saying:
“The Mexican Caribbean continues to be the main tourist center of Mexico and Latin America, to date more than 8,817,000 passengers have arrived at all the airports of Quintana Roo, exceeding the tourist influx by 20% compared to 2019.” But that’s not all.
Cancun is expected to continue its remarkable comeback for the rest of the year and through February 2023. During that time, some 50,000 flights will arrive and depart the region’s airports.
Most of these will arrive and depart from Cancun International Airport, which regularly handles more than 500 flights per day.
More than 9 million airline tickets will be sold during these months if forecasts are accurate, which we cannot doubt given the current popularity of Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean in general.
The number of tourists would increase much more in the fall and winter than in the spring and summer. If indeed so many visitors come during this period, it would be a 25% increase compared to the same months before the pandemic.
