Bali To Host World Beach Games In 2023

The second edition of the World Beach Games will be held in Bali from August 5 to 12, 2023, and will include 10 different sports competition categories.

The announcement was made by Robin Mitchell, interim chairman of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), on Friday, June 10, 2022.

According to Mitchell, Bali boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, making it an ideal location for the 2023 World Beach Games, which will include a variety of sports.

“We are pleased to announce that Bali will host the second edition of the ANOC World Beach Games,” said Mitchell in a written statement, quoted by Antara News.

The event, which was originally scheduled to take place in 2021 but was postponed due to the pandemic, will return for its second edition as the 2023 World Beach Games (current name: 2023 ANOC World Beach Games).

In 2019, the tournament was held in Doha, Qatar. Los Angeles and Hong Kong were reportedly interested in hosting the event.

An aquathlon, beach volleyball (4×4), beach soccer, beach tennis, beach handball, beach water polo, beach wrestling, karate singles, windsurfing and a 5km beach swimming race are just some of the ten sports on the program. It is planned to add four new beach sports – two proposed by the host country and two proposed by the ANOC.

The Indonesian Olympic Committee is confident that hosting the ANOC World Beach Games in Bali will be a fantastic opportunity for Indonesia to showcase its sporting prowess while helping to accelerate economic recovery from the pandemic.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, Raja Sapta Oktohari, stated in a letter to the press, “The World Beach Games in Bali is not only profitable for the world of sports, but can also have a positive impact on the economic and tourism sectors. AWBG is the most prestigious multi-event for beach and water sports which will be attended by 1,200 athletes and 1,400 officials from 100 countries”.

The Indonesian Olympic Committee alone will send 205 representatives to Bali, along with 36 foreign sporting federations and representatives of international sports organizations.
