Bali Announces A Start Date Of The New Tourism Tax

All foreign visitors coming to Bali after February 14, 2024, will have to pay a one-time entry fee of IDR 150,000 (about S$13).

Payment can be made in Indonesian rupiah or by credit card at one of the five designated payment counters in the international arrivals hall at Bali Airport. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) will process the transaction.

Before you go to the immigration counter for clearance, you must pay for each member of your traveling group, including children.

Once you’re at the front of the line, the payment process for each passenger should take just 23 seconds.

The Bali tourism tax is expected to eventually be able to be paid in advance online through the Love Bali web portal, although it is not certain whether this feature will be accessible by mid-February 2024, when it initially goes into force.

It would be unfortunate if this new tax collection would make significantly longer waiting times the norm, because the last experience of landing in Bali was only very short waiting times of no more than 10-15 minutes.

It is unfortunate that the tax cannot be added to all airline tickets on international aircraft landing in Bali.

You cannot avoid the new tourism tax if you are a non-Indonesian citizen arriving in Bali by domestic airline or boat. Payment stations have also been set up at the domestic airport arrival terminal and at Benoa Port.

Since there are no immigration controls at the domestic border, it is not yet clear how this will be implemented.

A Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) must be obtained at a separate counter for IDR 500,000 (about S$44) in order to enter Indonesia on an international flight for those who do not hold an ASEAN nationality. This can be done online in advance, skipping at least one of the arrival queues. If you are flying to Bali from another country, you will also need to fill out the e-customs declaration before you depart and acquire a QR code to provide when you arrive.
