After more than two years of severe lockdowns and stringent entry protocols, Argentina is ready to phase out restrictions imposed during the pandemic era “in the next few days,” according to the Minister of Health.
Given previous announcements, it would be overly optimistic to believe Argentina will lift all restrictions at once. Yet, the positive pandemic figures could persuade the government to lift at least most of the entry restrictions.
Earlier today Argentina reported 802 new cases, bringing the total number to 9,040,640. The country now ranks 12th among countries with the most infections, behind Vietnam.
The Ministry of Health also reported that 7 people lost their lives to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which brings the death toll to 128,059, placing the country 14th in the world for total deaths, behind Germany.
Up to date, travelers who have been vaccinated abroad must be able to show proof of vaccination through a document from a state health authority.
Visitors must also complete an electronic ‘affidavit‘ 48 hours before their trip indicating they will comply with all Covid 19 restrictions.
A negative PCR Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival in Argentina or an antigen test conducted within 48 hours prior to departure is also required.
Only visitors aged 6 and under, as well as those who have recovered from the virus within the past 90 days are exempt from testing.
Non-nationals who haven’t been vaccinated aren’t allowed into the country for the time being, and it’s hard to assume that will change “in the next few days” now that the cold months of autumn have arrived.
Argentina also requires travelers to purchase comprehensive coronavirus health insurance that covers hospitalization, self-isolation, and medical transportation for positive and suspected cases and for close contacts.
