The state of Arizona may not be well known for its many beautiful vacation destinations, but there are plenty to be enjoyed this, or any other summer. Whether you live in The Sunset State or are planning a trip here, we’ve put together this list of the best and most popular weekend getaway spots for you to choose from.
Regardless of which location suits you best, you’re sure to have a great summertime experience in Arizona.
While this list is certainly not exhaustive, you’ll find it’s a great resource for unbeatable Arizona vacation spots.
Williams on the 66
Likely the least well-known location on our list, Williams is a small city with a lot of charm that is conveniently located at the beginning of the famous Grand Canyon. Tourism has given the people of Williams the freedom to express themselves, making it an excellent spot for dining, fantastic art and crafts, and even greater entertainment.
Wahweap RV & Campground
The next must-see Arizona destination is one of the best campgrounds in the nation. With a host of stunning locations all within its borders, The Wahweap RV & Campground is a great place to visit again and again, especially if you’re a camping or RVing enthusiast. There’s even lake access at Patagonia Lake State Park, which is a wonderful way to have fun and beat the heat!
Flagstaff Trails & Forest
Flagstaff is known for its world-class skiing resorts. But it’s also a great spot for long, scenic hikes and cooler temperatures. If you visit toward the end of summer, you might get to see the beginning of the autumn changes in the area’s vast, verdant forests. There are more than 777 acres that have been specially set aside for skiing, making this area one of the most attractive spots for skiers in the world.
Sedona Red Rocks
A must-see destination for avid rock climbers, the Red Rocks of Sedona are stunning. These bright, rugged peaks and rock faces make up an absolutely stunning skyline and vistas. You can cool down in the waters of Oak Creek. Either hike along its length or swim it to the end for the perfect conclusion to a day among the majestic Red Rocks.
Phoenix
Few trips to Arizona would be complete without a visit to its iconic capital city. But Phoenix is much more than just a thriving metropolis. For a start, it’s significantly cooler than the majority of the state at average temperatures around 60 and 70 degrees. It’s also directly connected to the stunning Sonoran desert and there are national parks, a bustling nightlife, and loads of museums.
Saguaro National Park
Speaking of national parks, Arizona has plenty of them. Just a short trip from Tuscon is the Saguaro National Park, known for its giant cactus and an unusually lively wildlife population. It’s one of the most ecologically diverse national parks you’re likely to see as well. So make sure to visit every corner while you’re here, or break your exploration of the area into several trips.
Havasu Falls
The Havasupai area is home to native people of the same name. This means you’ll need a permit from their local government to stay for more than a few days. Summer reservations open in February, and with prices as low as $100 per night, they tend to sell out fast. If you do stay here, don’t miss the legendary Havasu Falls.
The Grand Canyon
This Arizonan attraction doesn’t need much of an introduction. The Grand Canyon is, of course, home to stunning natural features and has tons to explore. Go spelunking in its many caves. Take a leisurely or rapid river adventure, or simply hike through miles of awe-inspiring landscapes. Be sure not to miss Angel Trail if you enjoy hiking. It is easily one of the most picturesque trails on the continent.
