4 Visas For Digital Nomads That Can Convert Into Permanent Residency

Nowadays, there are four visas that are suitable for digital nomads and can result in overseas permanent residency.

Portugal

Portugal offers one of the new visas for digital nomads that grant permanent residency.

It is one of the most favorable visas for digital nomads in Europe with a minimum monthly income of $2,750.

Digital nomads are allowed to stay in Portugal for four months with the initial visa. However, if you sign a lease or buy a property in Portugal during that time, you can apply for your two-year residence visa.

You can extend your residence permit for another three years if you stay the required time. Residents of Portugal can apply for permanent residency after five years of legal residence.

After five years of residence in the country, you can apply for naturalization if you wish to become a Portuguese citizen. Remember that you must pass the citizenship test and the language test.

Mexico





The Temporary Resident Visa for Mexico is a fantastic prospect for remote workers, although it is not specifically a visa for digital nomads.

Digital nomads can obtain a one-year residence visa that can be extended for up to four years with the least restrictions.

This is fantastic news because it opens up the possibility of applying for permanent residency after four years of legal residence in Mexico. In about five years, you can apply for citizenship through naturalization.

The following amounts of money are required to obtain a digital nomad visa in Mexico:

The application process is time-consuming because you must visit a Mexican consulate or embassy, but it is well worth the effort!

Greece

Greece’s introduction of a visa for digital nomads in 2021 has attracted a lot of interest from nomads around the world.

With this visa, you only need to earn 3,500 euros per month and provide proof of your remote employment.

The visa is initially valid for one year. However, you can apply for a two-year residence permit if you are determined to make Greece your permanent residence and apply for permanent residency.

The residence permit is renewable if you continue to meet the criteria for a digital nomad visa. You can apply for a permanent residence permit if you have legally resided in Greece for five years.

You can become a Greek citizen if you have lived in Greece continuously for seven years, speak Greek, and pass the required citizenship tests.

Armenia offers a unique opportunity for self-employed individuals and entrepreneurs, although this visa option is not necessarily a visa for digital nomads.

The purpose of this visa is to grant a digital nomad temporary or permanent residency in exchange for registering a business in Armenia similar to a sole proprietorship or LLC.

The freelancer can continue to work with clients from around the world if they have a business in Armenia. However, they must pay corporate income tax in Armenia. Fortunately, the tax rates are reasonable.

There is no minimum residency requirement in Armenia, so digital nomads can take advantage of this to easily change their lifestyle and business.

Residents can apply for citizenship and obtain an Armenian passport after three years of residence.

Moreover, family reunification is permitted with this visa, allowing applicants to bring their spouses and dependents.
