Now more than ever, cruise passengers are staying connected to friends, family, and colleagues back home — and with each other — via their various smart devices and laptops.
It has also become commonplace for many functions of the cruise experience — both on the ship and before the sailing — to be in some way connected to the smartphone that most guests inevitably will have attached to their hand or hip. This includes checking in, beginning the muster drill process, viewing the daily schedule and menus, making reservations, and more. Those who don’t have smart devices don’t have to worry, because it isn’t absolutely necessary, it just makes things much easier these days.
Here, we’re going over the internet packages Norwegian Cruise Line offers so you can decide which might be right for you. We’ll also give you an overview of the line’s smartphone app.

Norwegian Cruise Line Internet Packages
Norwegian Cruise Line has three unlimited wifi packages to choose from, as well one package based on minutes instead of a per-day price.
Let’s take a look at all four packages available.
Unlimited Social Media WiFi
The Unlimited Social Media wifi package allows access to the most popular social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, WeChat, and more. TikTok is, however, not included.
This package does not include access to email or web browsing. It can only be used on one device at a time.
The Unlimited Social Media package costs $12.50 per day, if purchased online ahead of the cruise. If you wait to purchase once onboard, it costs $14.99 per day.
Unlimited WiFi
The regular Unlimited wifi package allows access to social media (excluding TikTok), web browsing, email, and all smartphone apps. It does not include streaming.
The cost for one device is $25.50 per day if purchased in advance, or $29.99 if purchased once onboard. Only one device can be used at a time.
Two devices cost $44.99 per day in advance, or $52.99 once onboard. A four-device package is $84.99 per day in advance, or $99.99 once onboard.
Voyages that are 13 days or longer will have a lower rate. Those who already have a cruise booked can log into their My NCL account to see what the cost will be for that particular voyage.

Unlimited Premium WiFi
The Unlimited Premium wifi package includes access to unlimited web surfing, email, social media, and all smartphone apps. It also includes streaming services such as YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Audible, Hulu, and TikTok.
This package costs $34.99 per day if purchased in advance, or $39.99 once onboard. Only one device can be used at a time.
For two devices, it costs $57.99 per day in advance, or $67.99 once onboard. For four, you’ll pay $109.99 per day in advance, or $129.99 once onboard.
Cruises that are 13 days or longer will have a lower rate. Those who already have a sailing booked can log into their My NCL account to see what the cost will be for that particular voyage.
250 Minutes Anytime
An alternative option to paying a per-day price for unlimited wifi is a plan which allows you to purchase blocks of minutes.
It offers 250 minutes of internet connectivity, for use anytime during the cruise. It costs $105 if purchased in advance online, or $125 if purchased once onboard. If you buy online, it will also save you a $3.95 activation fee that you’ll have to pay if you purchase this package once you’re already on the ship.
The package can be used by multiple devices, but only one can be logged onto the ship’s wifi at a time.

The Cruise Norwegian App
Norwegian Cruise Line’s smartphone app, called Cruise Norwegian, is available to download on Apple’s App Store as well as the Google Play store for phones using the Android operating system. Every ship in the Norwegian fleet is app compatible, which means that the onboard functions will work no matter which vessel you’re sailing.
It’s free to download, and we highly recommend that you download it right after you book your cruise. The app includes a “pre-cruise” mode that allows you to pre-book your onboard activities, dining reservations, shore excursions, entertainment, and view your trip itinerary and summary.

Also before boarding the ship, you can use the app to purchase onboard gifts like wine, flowers, and treats; check-in online; and access your e-Docs on embarkation day.
We also always recommend downloading any cruise line’s app in advance simply because it will be easier than trying to download it on the ship’s wifi once out at sea.
Features and functions of the app include, but are not limited to:
Book shore excursionsMake dining reservationsPreview entertainment, spa treatments, and bars‘Favorite’ onboard offeringsTrack onboard purchasesView the daily scheduleReview disembarkation informationCheck your Latitude Rewards pointsCall and message friends and family that are sailing onboard with you (a one-time fee is required for this function)
