Spectrum of the Seas’ Remaining Hong Kong Season Canceled

Royal Caribbean International has canceled the remainder of its cruise season in Hong Kong through mid-March 2022.

The news comes after the line continually extended its pause there in two-week increments, starting in early January.

“Following Hong Kong’s extension of COVID-19 prevention measures, Royal Caribbean has cancelled the remainder of its 2022 Hong Kong cruise-to-nowhere season,” the line said. “The extension and the uncertainty of the situation in Hong Kong impacts the cruise line’s commitment to ensure it can deliver the memorable holidays guests know and love.”

Sailings that are now canceled include those departing on February 18, 21, 24, 26, and 28, as well as March 4, 7, 10, 12, 14, and 17.

Bert Hernandez, president, China, Royal Caribbean International, said “Our most prudent course of action is to cancel the season… While we have received an amazing response from those who have sailed, we do not want our future guests to be in a difficult situation because of this uncertainty.”

As previously announced, Spectrum of the Seas’ Singapore schedule was moved forward six months, and it is scheduled to begin sailing from Singapore on April 11, 2022 instead of in October.

Spectrum of the Seas is a Quantum-Ultra class ship, and debuted in 2019. Notable features include the Sky Pad bungee trampoline, the robot-tended Bionic Bar, Sichuan Red specialty restaurant, Expedition Two70 augmented reality game, Wonderland specialty restaurant, and the North Star observation capsule that takes passengers high above the ship.

The ship also features Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate Family Suite — a massive two-story stateroom complete with a slide, rock climbing wall, private movie theater, multiple bedrooms, and a spa-like master bathroom.
