Princess Cruises’ newest and largest upcoming ship Sun Princess celebrated a major milestone this week when it was floated out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

The float out was marked by a special ceremony where a “Madrina” is named to offer blessings and best wishes for the vessel as the building dock is flooded with water. Princess’ Hotel General Manager Simona Stumberger was selected to serve in the special role as an ambassador for Princess Cruises.
A native of Slovenia where she studied hospitality management, Stumberger began her career at sea in the bar department and then worked in guest services. She’s been with Princess for almost five years.

The float out completes the first major phase of construction for Sun Princess, as the ship now transitions to a focus on building out the interiors.
Princess Cruises has appointed Gennaro Arma as captain, who not only will captain the ship once she debuts, but also oversee the vessel’s final stages of construction.
The 175,500-ton, 4,300-guest Sun Princess will feature new spaces to Princess, including a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini, The Dome, as well as a three-story Horizons Dining Room and a revamped Piazza.
Sun Princess is scheduled to debut in Europe in 2024. The ship’s inaugural season is open for booking.
