Cruise Passenger Dies After a Tour Boat Sinks in Nassau

A shore excursion turned deadly for a passenger in Nassau on Tuesday.

The accident happened during the Blue Lagoon Island shore excursion when the tour boat sank off the coast after being hit by several large waves.

Blue Lagoon said, “Emergency teams from the island quickly arrived to render assistance. Passengers and 5 staff members were located and brought to the island, and two passengers were taken to the hospital for additional care. All on board are accounted for.”

It said, “The Royal Bahamas Defense Force, Blue Lagoon, and other vessels all assisted in getting people to shore, and we are grateful for their help.”

Fortunately for the guests, the boat rested on the bottom in about 20 feet of water, and the second level was still out.

Five people were taken to the hospital. The cause of the woman’s death has not been disclosed, but local authorities confirmed her death.

Missing Cruise Guest Jumps Overboard, Carnival Says

Details have surfaced on the Carnival cruise guest reported missing on Monday.

28-year-old Tyler Barnett from Louisiana could not be located on Monday, which sparked a search with the US Coast Guard and Carnival Glory.

After reviewing shipboard surveillance footage, Carnival’s security team concluded that Barnett appeared to have jumped overboard from a lifeboat Deck 4 early Monday.

The Coast Guard launched two aircraft to search an area of over 200 miles without luck.

On Tuesday evening, Carnival released a statement saying, “The Carnival Glory security team has confirmed that after multiple reviews of the shipboard surveillance video, it appears that the guest reported missing on Monday jumped from the ship’s Deck 4 at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Monday….”

“He can be seen climbing on a lifeboat and jumping from there. Only on Tuesday were we advised of the possibility of him wearing a different shirt, which allowed our security team to change the profile of the guest as we searched onboard video.”

This makes the 13th confirmed overboard incident from a cruise ship this year, with only two individuals rescued alive.
