Carnival Cruise Line’s third Excel-class ship, Carnival Jubilee, is currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The vessel is part of Carnival Corporation’s Excellence class, which is a range of large cruise ships for Carnival Cruise Line, P&O Cruises, Costa Cruises, and AIDA Cruises. The ships are dual-fueled, powered by a combination of liquefied natural gas — which is a cleaner burning fossil fuel — and traditional fuel oil. This makes them more environmentally-friendly than traditional ships that run on diesel fuel.
Carnival Jubilee, her sister ships Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, and P&O Cruises’ Iona and Arvia are all part of the Excellence subclass called Excel class. Mardi Gras made history when she debuted last year as Carnival Cruise Line’s largest ship ever, and she bears the name of Carnival’s very first ship.
Last week, Meyer Werft shared photos of the Carnival Jubilee construction progress, showing the navigational bridge block being lowered into place onto the vessel.
In the Facebook post, the shipyard said (translated into English from German), “The construction of our cruise ships has been successful for a long time according to the block building principle. A special block is the bridge block – it is the ship’s command center after all. At the Carnival Jubilee, this bridge block was installed today and now completes the provision of the new luxury liner.”

The ship will have many of the same features as her sister ships, including the BOLT roller coaster, the two-story RedFrog Tiki Bar, Family Feud Live game show, Serenity adults-only sundeck, and WaterWorks aqua park. Restaurants will include Rudi’s Seagrill, Cucina del Capitano, Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse, Bonsai Sushi, and Shaquille O’Neal’s counter-service venue Big Chicken.
Carnival Jubilee is scheduled to debut in Galveston, Texas in November 2023. From the Gulf port, she will operate seven-night western Caribbean cruises.
