Viking’s second season in North America’s Great Lakes begins today, as the line’s second expedition ship Viking Polaris arrived in Toronto for her first port call in the region.
The vessel joins her identical sister ship, Viking Octantis, which began sailing in the Great Lakes last year and returned to the region in April. With its two expedition ships now in the Great Lakes for the 2023 season, Viking has doubled its capacity in the region this year.

The ships will remain in the Great Lakes through September, sailing all five lakes on a variety of itineraries that operate between Toronto and Duluth. Starting this season, Viking will also call on Cleveland, Ohio for the first time during the new 15-day Great Lakes Collection itinerary.
Viking will be operating six itineraries in the Great Lakes this year:
Great Lakes Collection — 15 days between Toronto and Duluth
This expedition sails across all five of the Great Lakes, with highlights including Niagara Falls, the Georgian Bay, and the Soo Locks. Guests will be able to study the aquatic ecosystems of the lakes and venture into the boreal forests that line the shores of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.
Canada & the Atlantic Coastline — 16 days between Toronto and Fort Lauderdale
Sail along the legendary St. Lawrence Seaway and the Atlantic coast of the U.S. and explore the wilderness near Trois-Rivières, Louisbourg, and Lunenburg by land and water. New York City, Quebec City, Norfolk, and Charleston are also highlights along the way.
Undiscovered Great Lakes — 8 days from Thunder Bay to Milwaukee
Cross the width of Lake Superior between Duluth and the Soo Locks, exploring the Apostle Islands and Keweenaw Peninsula along the way. Hike along clifftop trails for sweeping views of the lake, and admire the “Niagara of the North,” Kakabeka Falls. Mackinac Island with its sea caves and quaint, car-free streets is also an itinerary highlight.
Great Lakes Explorer — 8 days from Milwaukee to Thunder Bay
Discover the maze of granite islands that comprise Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve while hiking and kayaking. Mackinac Island and Sleeping Giant Provincial Park are also highlights of this cruise itinerary.
Niagara & The Great Lakes — 8 days between Toronto and Mikwaukee
Discover North America’s wilderness alongside renowned cultural attractions while cruising the waterways of the Great Lakes, with highlights including Niagara Falls, Point Pelee, and sheltered bays and woodlands.
Canadian Discovery — 13 days between New York and Toronto
Unleash your inner explorer in the remote wilds of eastern Canada. Discovery the region’s rich colonial past and admire the beauty of the Canadian Maritimes coast. A cruise along the St. Lawrence River and the cliffs and wildlife of the Saguenay River Valley round out the experience.
